Christmas In The Air

Time goes so fast!  Thanksgiving got here in such a hurry and now we are on to Christmas.  I love this time of year.  It starts with Halloween and we know we have three months of fun, decorating, and being with family.  It is a good thing there isn't much that goes on in January and it is so cold we just stay in because after all that excitement and eating and decorating and eating and entertaining and eating we are ready for a BREAK!

But, let's just enjoy the last and most fun part of this time of year.

I love to watch all the classic Christmas movies and TV shows.  It just isn't Christmas without A Christmas Carol.  There are many versions, but my favorite is the one with George C. Scott.  And, of course, it isn't Christmas without Rudolph.  My kids think they are too old for it, but I try to convince them otherwise.

They are really excited about Christmas.  My youngest has a birthday next week so he just celebrates the whole month!  He is asking for an artillery for both, though.  I am going to have to have a talk with him because this comes to mind.

We always have an artificial tree, but they told me last weekend they want to get a real one.  We haven't done that before and now that they are older I think it is time for a new tradition.  I use to go all out with making sure they believed in Santa.  I would leave notes Christmas morning, half eaten cookies and and an empty glass of milk and I would even take powdered sugar and spread it around.  I always keep little musical things around the fireplace and I would move them around and knock them over and fuss Christmas morning about what a mess Santa made!

There are some advantages to them being older and not believing anymore.  The biggest is that I can set it all out and get to bed at a decent time!  Being football players, my boys enjoy my traditional Christmas breakfast a lot more now.  I also have to make a lot more, but that is okay.

I guess we will go looking for a tree this weekend.  Unless they have changed their minds.  They all just kind of looked at each other when I told them what we had to do to get it and that it needed to be watered.  They may decide it is too much work, but I think it would be fun to do something new!

I try to make decorating fun by making cookies, getting a movie, something that makes it more of an event than chore.  This song comes to mind and it plays in my head the whole time!
